Escondido makes products that sit on shelves across North America without most shoppers ever knowing where they came from. A well-known maker of natural soaps and household-cleaning products is headquartered here, built on decades of formulating and bottling for national retail distribution. A few miles away, a major craft brewery moved its headquarters and brewing operation into a large new facility in the Quail Hills area back in 2006, turning Escondido into a beverage-production address as well as a household-goods one. Neither product forgives packaging equipment that runs slow: a soap maker's powders and liquids have to land at exact weights, and a brewery's cases have to seal and move as fast as the filling line fills them.
