A major bakery brand once ran its own cookie-packaging innovation center in Norwalk before relocating; PLAN IT now supplies the flow-wrapping and case-packing equipment the region's remaining bakers and food producers need.
For decades, a major cookie, cracker, and bread bakery brand ran a food packaging equipment innovation center out of a Westport Avenue office in Norwalk, developing flow-wrap and case-packing solutions built specifically for baked goods. That chapter is ending: the bakery brand's parent company announced in January 2023 that it would close the Norwalk office by 2025 and consolidate its snacks headquarters functions in New Jersey. That know-how left with it. Norwalk has a second baked-goods footnote: a granola and cereal brand was founded and launched here in 2002 before it, too, moved its headquarters, in that case to California.
What's left in Norwalk is a smaller, quieter cluster: the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce still runs active food-and-beverage and beverage-manufacturing-and-distribution directory categories, a sign that smaller producers and distributors kept operating here even as the bigger brands moved on. A cookie-packaging case study in our own portfolio shows the same tolerance Norwalk's remaining bakers run against. Our Pack Series flow wrappers seal cookies, crackers, and other baked goods individually or in multipacks at production speed, the same packaging format the city's former bakery-brand tenant built its innovation center around, while horizontal form fill seal (HFFS) machines handle bar- and tray-style baked products at higher volume. The innovation center that engineered these wrap-seal specs closes by 2025. That know-how doesn't have to leave Norwalk with it; we build to the same tolerance. This equipment ships from our stock, and our solutions team already works with the smaller bakers and distributors still listed in the Chamber's food-and-beverage directory.
